What happened to March!

All of these pictures were taken on April 13th and it took me this long to upload them all!

Some kind of GRAY cement boards that lay over the red and black liners in the master shower. Looks pretty heavy duty to me!

Something RED on the shower floor lining...

Three layers of stuff...(no idea what it's called) were placed in the Master walk-in shower to prevent leakage in case the tile cracks! Something Black...

We let our contractor choose the tiles for the bathrooms and I love it!

The tile for the boys bathroom shower are almost done and they are currently working on grouting it.

A counter with a door to the laundry shoot and shelves have been made for the boys bathroom so mama doesn't have to carry the laundry down the stairs!

Custom shelves were built for Matt's office closet!

Rods were placed in all the other bedroom closets!

Shelves were built in the walk-in closet.

The banister has been installed in the stairwell.

Here is La'a's and Makaio's bedroom closet and doors. With the white trim around the closet and windows.

So it's April 23rd and time has just flown by! Regarding the new house, most of the month of March was spent on doing the dry wall. Hanging it, taping it and texturing it. Who new it would take a whole month to do the dry wall...but Willie did an excellent job! It looks really nice. The first 2 weeks of April was spent on putting the the trim around the windows and doors and hanging the doors and shelves in the closets. Take a look!

The Exterior Painting is Done!

I know the house looks orange and you are all thinking, "What a Filipino color!" Well...I am half Filipino... and proud of it! Actually, I wanted our house to be the color of Anahola red dirt so when I looked at all the swatches of paint colors, this "Burnt Sienna" called out to me and I absolutely love it!

Our outside, hot water shower, for days when we get home from the beach and want to wash off the sand before we get in the house. OR for every day washing the RED Anahola dirt off of our kids!

As of Feb. 7th, my cousin Ryan finished caulking and priming most of our home! Here are a few pictures!

Home Depot Project

I didn't even know what it was!

Alaka'i was always so fast at doing his stuff that I could barely catch him in the act of sanding, pounding a hammer, or glueing a piece of wood!
La'akea is always so serious when it comes to doing a project. I'm glad we can sign this off as one of his cub scout projects!
All 5 kids were lined up around the table and I think Kahiau finished her project first!
Makaio got tired of standing and pounding his nail on table. So he decided to do it on the ground...much better...less noisy!

Every first Saturday of the month, Home Depot has a wood construction project for kids. They give you a pre-packaged kit of some kind and the tools to put it together...and it's free! So on Saturday Feb. 6th, Matt and I took our 3 sons and our niece and nephew to check it out. They had so much fun!

Insulation or not?!

The drywall was hung on all of the first floor by February 4th! They are so fast!
They also started hanging the drywall in the living room and kitchen area.
So that's what fiber glass insulation looks like? I'm sure learning a whole lot throughout this process!
Here is Makaio standing in my walk-in closet that is getting insulated in the walls.

So we live in Hawaii and the temperature here stays relatively consistent...not too hot in the summer and not too cold in the winter. So everyone we talk to says "You don't need insulation in Hawaii!" But...some of our friends who have done insulation and are in the business of building say, "Oh yeah, you should do insulation in the attic and at least between the floors." One expert has said, "If you insulate the walls, it could mean a difference of 5-8 degrees warmer (when it's cold) and 5-8 degrees cooler (when it's hot)." So obviously after much contemplation on Matt's part, we went with it. Do you see it pictured in the ceiling here?

Plumbing and Electrical are all in!

So all the electrical and plumbing have been roughed in...the plumbing and electrical fixtures will be put in after the dry wall has been painted! Another step closer to being done! Yippee!

Update on the House

Wow! It's already February 16th! Half the month is gone and it is my first post of the month. I
promised myself I would try to update this blog at least once a month so I'm keeping my promise...at least it's not February 28th!

So on Jan. 21st I took these pictures on the progress of the house...

The walls are finally up and it's beginning to look like a real house! So exciting!
